One of my favorite restaurants closed last year, not because it wasn’t beloved or profitable, but because they didn’t own the building.
The building owner sold it to someone else.
It was the perfect spot for this restaurant, and they couldn’t find another great location in the area. They could not take their patrons to another part of the city. So they had to close—no more perfect french toast.
If you don’t own the building, you can lose track of everyone. Sure, you can post on Twitter, Facebook, TikTok and telephone poles, but you need a home base to survive the turmoil of such methods.
If you don’t own the building, someone else decides when you’re closing.
