Narrative Eating Opens

A new restaurant in downtown Middlebridge hopes to get you very acquainted with your dinner. The restaurant, Narrative Eating, opened on Monday and offers a unique perspective on the typical meal, telling a narrative about your entrée.

“We want people to really know the food they’re eating,” says Hana Baxter, who opened the restaurant with her husband. “We spent years developing a relationship with livestock farmers so that they would track the story of their animals.”

The opening night special offered this piece of beef:

Horace wanted to be a racehorse until he found out he was a cow. He spent a happy life on the farm and dreamed of crossing the finish line at the local horse track. He lived a life without incident and was peacefully provided for your dinner. Consider taking a piece of this steak for a whirl around your plate before putting it in your mouth.

While some guests seem skeptical, Baxter insists that others have been thrilled. “People have told me that they love really getting to know their food. They say they feel like they have a special bond with their dinner.”

We tried to find patrons who had positive things to say, but no one with such feelings would speak to us.

Other patrons opted for vegetarian options and found that such meals came with kids’ storybooks featuring carrots, tomatoes and bell peppers.

“We don’t want anyone to feel like their food is without a story,” Baxter said. “Behind every great meal is a plot.”
