The Postgame Dragon Slaying Interview

“This is Whit Jenkins from The Jungle reporting to you live from the Hillsborough Caverns,” Whit said into a camera, holding a microphone. Behind him in the shot, a crowd of people in medieval dress stood next to a path that led to a cave where smoke emerged. “We just received word that Lester the knight has slain the dragon that’s terrorized this local hamlet for several months.”

The crowd behind Whit cheered, and the camera panned to show the knight Lester walking down the path. Lester wore scorched armor. A broken sword hung in his left hand while his right hand held a dragon horn. His face was bloodied and blackened.

“Here is Lester the knight!” Whit yelled into the mic. Lester struggled down the path. He appeared to be suffering from several injuries. “We’re going to talk to Lester now.”

“Lester, Lester, over here!” Whit yelled. “Jungle News.”

Lester walked up to the camera.

“Lester, you just slayed the dragon, which ate so many townspeople and took down so many of your friends. You’ll be a hero, remembered forever. How do you feel?”

“Well, to be honest, I’m not sure.”

“You have to be proud to have accomplished this,” Lester said.

“Well, there’s a lot of adrenaline,” Lester said, panting. “But I’m sure…”

“You also have to be devastated that you couldn’t end the damage sooner,” Whit said.

“If I had some time to think about it, I’m sure…”

“But you also earned the ransom for killing the dragon. Your family is set for life. You’ll never have to work again. That has to feel good.”

“I suppose so, I just…”

“There you have it,” Whit said, “The first thoughts from the knight Lester. Congrats Lester! Back to you in the studio.”
