A Streak of 200

“Corey, guess what?” Mindy said as she sat down next to her friend at a coffee shop. “I just completed my 200th day in a row of journaling.”

“Every day?” Corey asked.

“Even the fourth of July,” Mindy said. ‘Well, I only do it on weekdays. But I’ve successfully journaled 200 days—Monday to Friday.”

“Congratulations, Mindy,” Corey said, taking a knife to the cinnamon roll he purchased at the coffee shop. “Good for you. Although I don’t really believe in streaks.”

“What do you mean?” Mindy asked. She brought her chai tea to her lips as Tyler spoke.

“I think it’s great that it helped you, but I hate having to do something every day. It feels limiting.”

“Oh, but it’s a great way to form a habit. I never have to think about if I’m going to write in my journal.”

“But where’s the freedom? How can you really get into something if it’s forced? I just don’t feel that way.”

“Do you journal?” Mindy asked.

“I try to.”

“When was the last time you did?”

Tyler thought for a minute. “I really meant to yesterday. But I don’t think I have since the middle of May.”

“Not even the fourth of July?” Mindy asked.

“Not even New Year’s,” Tyler admitted. He took another bite from his cinnamon roll. “I’ve been enjoying the freedom, though.”
