AI, Dogs and People

“I don’t have a lot of hope for the future,” Corrine said as she sat with Diana at the dog park, watching their dogs play. “On top of everything else, we have all of the pressures of an AI world. As a teacher, I don’t want to be replaced by a robot.

Diana looked out over the dogs and pointed something out to Corrine. “Dogs like humans, don’t you think?”

“Yeah, of course,” she said. “Especially their owners.”

“And dogs will come up to you to get petted or for a treat, but then they’re right back chasing other dogs, trying to figure out what other dogs are doing. At a dog park, dogs are all about other dogs.”

“That’s very obvious,” Corrine said.

“I think that to dogs, humans are a lot like AI. We help them find food, shelter and comfort. These are all things I think that AI can do for humans. But then dogs like it best when they’re playing with other dogs.”
