Caroline did not expect her guests to bring the same thing to their football party. It was her husband, Don’s, idea to invite their friends over. It was a big game for their alma mater, and she would have been happier to watch alone. Yet here she was opening the door.
“Hey, we brought cherry pie!” Michaela said as she entered the house with her husband.
“Oh, thanks,” Caroline said, taking the pie.
“We asked AI what you should bring to a football party, and it said pie.”
“How did you end up with cherry?”
“I asked AI if cherry was a good pie to bring to a football watch party, and it said yes,” Michaela said.
The door rang again, and Caroline went to find Betsy and Porter standing at the door.
“We brought peach pie!” Porter said, “I made it myself.”
“Thanks,” Caroline said. “Our rival’s colors match the peach pie.”
“That’s what I told him,” Betsy said, “But Porter asked AI if peach pie was a good thing to bring to a football party, and it said yes.”
The door rang again. Kyle stood there holding a pie.
“Hi, Kyle,” Caroline said.
“Pumpkin pie,” Kyle said, smiling.
“It can go in the kitchen with the other pies. How did you decide on pumpkin pie?”
“It’s your favorite,” Kyle said. It was Caroline’s favorite.
Caroline went to find her husband, Don.
“Don, you’ll never believe this, but everyone brought pie to the football watch party.”
“Really?” Don asked.
“Apparently, they all asked AI what to bring to a football game, and it said pie.”
Don laughed. “This is my fault.”
“How?”
“Remember when I was doing that content marketing job, where I would write all of those articles? I went on this kick where I wrote hundreds of articles for different websites that you should bring pie to a football watch party. I think that the AI picked up all of those articles and thought they were true.”
Caroline laughed. “What kind of pie did you say?”
“It depended on the article. What do we have?”
“Cherry, peach and pumpkin.”
Don took out his phone and typed something. “I just asked if Shepard’s pie was a good thing to take to a football party, and it said yes. I think it would say yes to anything. AI likes to agree with you.”
“All I’m hoping today is that we get to celebrate a win with pie!” Caroline said.
