Creator Hide and Seek: Second is disguised

Finding an audience for your work, project or business is a game of hide-and-seek. You want to be found at precisely the right time in a way that will engage the prospective seeker.

This week, we found five creators with five different hide-and-seek strategies. Our seeker, Lana, will work to find each creator and decide whether she wants to engage with their work.

Let’s meet today’s contestant.

Kylie’s fantastic visual art evoked a world between dreams and reality. She used bright colors—watercolors and spray paint—to layer on the work. She displayed several canvases and wore a shirt featuring her best piece of art, but as she looked at her displayed work, she realized how abstract it appeared.

Would Lana appreciate her art? Kylie heard Lana begin to count and made a decision. She quickly grabbed some pictures from a wedding photoshoot job she had taken to make a little extra money. She plastered them on top of her canvases. Kylie threw on a trench coat and sat in the corner, hiding.

After several minutes, Lana wandered in.

“Found you!” she told Kylie, who hid under the coat.

“Yes, you did,” Kylie said in a muffled tone. She didn’t want to let her bright personality shine through.

Lana looked at the wedding pictures. “These are very good. I’m not getting married right now, though.”

Lana moved to leave, but Kylie asked a question. “What kind of art do you like?”

“Big, colorful pieces,” Lana said. “I like the background frame on these pictures. Have a good day.”

Lana left the room. Kylie thought momentarily about showing Lana the art behind the pictures, but what if Lana hated them? Kylie decided that she would instead prefer to be seen as competent by Lana.
