Dating Appetizers

When Applebee’s decided to join the dating app scene, Cali was ready to sign up. Cali says, “I can suffer through almost any date for some mozzarella sticks.”

The app works like any other dating app, except it’s all Applebee’s. You pick your ideal menu items and favorite Applebee’s locations and then you swipe through other people’s picks.

“If the guy’s menu items are all steak and no appetizers, that’s an immediate rejection,” Cali told us on a recent Applebee’s trip while swiping through some matches. “He’s not going to be well-rounded.”

Cali has also updated her preferences. “I used to include ribs as one of my menu items, but I don’t want to suffer through a date that long if it’s not going well. I stick to the classics now.”

Cali says that the actual dating experience is similar to other dating apps. “There are a lot of small plates out on the Applebee’s dating scene and very few entrees.”

When reached for comment, Applebee’s wanted to clarify that Cali was comparing men to appetizers and not disparaging Applebee’s expansive menu.

Cali’s worst experience occurred when she ordered fajitas. Her date that night didn’t know what they were. He freaked out when they came to the table sizzling and threw water on the dish and the waitress.

Cali is practical about the Applebee’s dates. She doesn’t think she’ll find love, just more lava cakes. If a guy is willing to buy her Applebee’s, Cali will listen to him talk about his Fantasy Football Team or weird electronics collection. However, the topic she hates is other chain restaurants.

“I don’t care about Cheesecake Factory or TGI Fridays. I’m all about Applebee’s. If you’re messing around with other restaurants, just pass me the spinach and artichoke dip before you leave.”
