How did Greg find himself at a roller derby in a warehouse with Carly? Carly and Greg were work friends but rarely did anything outside of work. They mainly just commiserated at work about their tyrannical boss, Mr. Sellers.
Mr. Sellers threw papers, screamed, yelled, and demeaned the team. He instilled fear and disrespect in the office. Mr. Sellers didn’t realize that his team usually tried to undermine his bluster. Carly and Greg laughed about it constantly.
“So why are we at this roller derby?” Greg asked Carly. “Are you a big fan?”
“Just wait,” Carly said, bouncing in her seat in excitement. The lights dimmed, and the announcer’s voice boomed through the playing space.
“Hello and welcome to Roller Night,” the announcer said. Greg couldn’t believe it, he looked at Carly as the voice continued, “I’m your master of destructive ceremonies, the Velvet Frog!”
“It can’t be,” Greg said.
“It is,” Carly said, laughing.
A spotlight illuminated the announcer booth, and their boss, Mr. Sellers, was in a purple suit and frog hat. Greg and Carly cheered.
The night was a blast. Mr. Sellers, the Velvet Frog, was a fun announcer. He got into it with players and refs. He kept the fans entertained and informed. The Velvet Frog was a roller derby star.
“I wish that guy were our boss,” Greg said as they left the event.
“That guy has to be in there, right?” Carly said. “Now I feel bad for him. He can be fun.”
“So, do we unmask him?” Greg asked.
“Not yet,” Carly said. “I think we need to get the whole office to come to roller derby night and experience the Velvet Frog.”
