The Bad Guys Guide to Finding the Good Guys

When Christie found Greg at the park, he had a pile of self-help books.

“Did you finally get tired of the Bad Guys Handbook? Christie asked.

Greg laughed. “No, I went to the library to find the Good Guys Handbook, but they don’t have one. Someone said these books help you become a good guy. But it’s not leading me to any clues.”

“Clues to what?” Christie asked, sitting next to Greg under a tree.

“Clues of where to find the good guys. It seems like the bad guys are more worried about thwarting the good guys, demeaning the good guys, double-crossing the good guys, and even exposing the good guys. But they’re not so worried about finding them.”

Christie considered this for a second. “Maybe that’s because the good guys just always show up when you need them?”

“What do you mean?” Greg said. “It feels like we’re drowning in bad guys.”

“That’s true,” Christie said. “And they use their scheming to cause harm. But they know someone’s going to show up. It won’t be everyone. Some people still have to deliver pizzas and orchestrate outdoor music festivals. But someone will show up.”

“So we just wait for them?” Greg asked.

“Or, you could become one,” Christie said. “That’s where they come from. People like you.”

Greg considered this for a minute.

“No. I’ll keep waiting for someone to show up.”

“Every time I see you at the park, I hope someone else will show up instead.”

Greg smiled, “Then we can wait together.”
