The Great Detective Rick Recluse arrived at his favorite diner called Sleuth’s. It was named in honor of a case Rick solved for the restaurant’s owner. People knew they could often find the detective at the diner in a reserved booth. Larry was waiting.
“Thanks for coming,” Larry said. He looked exactly like a man fired from his job and accused of stealing from the company that fired him.
“Of course,” Recluse said. “You know I love having lunch with you.”
Larry almost abandoned the plan at that moment. Recluse tortured Larry so much by having lunch with Larry, getting bored and then having a breakthrough to solve one of his cases. However, this time Larry needed Recluse’s help.
Recluse was all ears as Larry explained about the firing after his company accused him of grand larceny. Recluse didn’t jump up and solve a case or nab a criminal. He just listened.
Larry talked through the confusing nature of the firing. He also spoke about his fears for the future. He worried that no one would hire him, and he would end up in financial ruin. When the story ended, Recluse responded.
“Larry, I will help you. We can easily find out who is behind this and clear your name. I already have spies in the company and will start digging immediately.”
“Thank you, Rick,” Larry said, choking up.
“And you can help me too,” Recluse said. “You are very good at helping me change my thought patterns and make connections in ways I can’t without your assistance. It’s never been out of boredom or disinterest that I have solved cases when I am with you. You think in a way that I like tracking. In tracking your thinking, I solve cases.”
“So, do we have to have lunch once a week?” Larry asked.
“No, I want to make you my partner. It pays well. You’ll accompany me on cases, and we’ll expense lunches. Best of all, “When people see us, they’ll now say…”
Larry cut him off. Not wanting the great detective to get carried away, “They’ll say, there goes the Great Detective and Larry.”
