CEO Claims to be the Underdog

After raising prices on products bought by working families, Embattled Industries CEO Cassidy Brady was surprised by the backlash. After a negative article in The Jungle, Brady called reporter Jess Crimson to make his case that he was an underdog.

“I’m one of the people,” Brady said. “We come from the same places, shop at the same stores and are getting ready to take down the giants who impose such hardships on us.”

“Sir, your bonus last year was $2 million,” Crimson said. “Entire city blocks aren’t bringing in that income, and that was just your bonus. How can you see yourself as an underdog?”

“Well, nobody believes in us, Jess,” Brady said. “Embattled Industries is always on lists of companies considered most likely to fail. I’m always on lists of CEOs most likely to get fired. It is us against the world.”

“But you have a private jet, three houses and a horticultural garden.”

“And if the world had its way, I would lose it all.”

“But you’re not David. You’re Goliath. Maybe you’re McBeth or something, but…”

“I’m good with a slingshot. Would you like me to demonstrate?”

“So if you’re the underdog, who is the Goliath?”

“We have this summer intern named Harvey. I see him as the mastermind behind the conspiracy to bring me down. In fact, everyone at the company is now focused on taking down this college sophomore, Harvey. I don’t know his last name.”
