The news was too big! Lana was not sure she could get a muffin.
Everyone knew that Tina made the best muffins in town at her shop, Martina’s Cafe. Lana always tried to grab one. The problem was that Tina never made the same number of muffins.
Lana tracked muffin production to figure out how early she needed to arrive at Martina’s Cafe to grab a muffin.
During the summer, Tina made a lot of muffins and some remained into the afternoon. On Mondays, she always made fewer muffins and the muffin numbers peaked on Fridays as she gained energy throughout the week.
Tina would sometimes have slow muffin days after holidays or big events at school, but the biggest factor that would drive down muffin production was big news that Tina followed.
Sometimes, a fire or a trial verdict could drop the muffin quantity into the high teens. The Oscars and the Super Bowl had both caused single-digit muffin production in the past.
But last night’s news was huge. It was earth-shattering.
If Lana was right, based on her projections, Tina may have made only six muffins.
Lana arrived at Martina’s Cafe at 5:05 AM, minutes after the store opened. She walked up to the counter just in time to hear Tina say that there were no muffins that day.
“I’m too late?” Lana asked. She really wanted a muffin. “How many muffins were there?”
“Zero,” Tina said. “Last night was just too exciting!”
Lana smiled sadly and thought about which donut shop she would stop by. Then Tina pulled out a to-go box and handed it to Lana. “Of course, I may have made one, so that we could celebrate!”
