Creator Hide and Seek: Fourth is Cooked

Finding an audience for your work, project or business is a game of hide-and-seek. You want to be found at precisely the right time in a way that will engage the prospective seeker.

This week, we found five creators with five different hide-and-seek strategies. Our seeker, Lana, will work to find each creator and decide whether she wants to engage with their work.

Let’s meet today’s contestant.

Otis was a chef. He cooked delightful dishes with Cajun and Mexican flavors. He made food for his friends and family, but wanted to broaden his audience.

If Otis wanted to surprise Lana, he would have set up in the kitchen. She would have stumbled upon Otis as she returned the knives that another hider had dropped, and he could have prepared a cajun huevos rancheros.

Instead, Otis found a secret door under the stairs—a dark and musty hole. He heard Lana pass many times and realized that she would never see him in there. The hiding place was too good.

She might not like Cajun Mexican fusion, Otis thought. She may not even really eat food. She might just have protein shakes.

The point of hide and seek is to be found eventually. That’s the fun of the game. If you can’t be found, it’s just hide. That’s what Otis did.

He stayed in the hidden door, and Lana never found him.
