Richard could hardly believe that all the leaves had returned to his yard. His neighbor’s tree always ended up leaving leaves in his yard. Even though it was not his tree, he ended up responsible for the leaves. That was the rule. Whoever’s yard the leaves fell in became their property.
Why did money never fall in Richard’s yard?
So Richard bought a giant industrial fan and blew all of the leaves back into his neighbor’s yard. He went to bed and was now awake. He found that all of the leaves were in his yard again.
Richard was furious. He stormed over and knocked on the Johnsons’ door. Phil answered the door. Richard was yelling. “How did the leaves end up back in my yard?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Richard. Do you want me to rake the leaves?”
“No, I want them not to end up in my yard. What did you use? A leaf blower?” Richard asked.
“We didn’t do anything,” Phil said. “I’ll show you from the doorbell camera.”
Phil pulled out his phone and ran the camera back to yesterday. “Look, here you are with a giant fan, blowing all of the leaves into our yard.”
Richard smiled sheepishly. They kept watching. The sun went down. The milk truck went by, and then all of a sudden, the leaves started going back into his yard.”
“I guess it was the wind,” Phil said, smiling. “You want me to clean them up?”
Richard turned around and stormed off, embarrassed. Even the wind knew who really owned the leaves.
