Mitch loved going to the dentist. Not because the teeth cleaning was spectacular or because they used lasers, but because of his very talkative hygienist.
Mitch and his friend Zane were members of the Gossip Guys. That meant they were straight guys who loved gossip and weren’t afraid to admit it. All guys love gossip. They just mask it behind hot sports takes or by trolling people online. Mitch and Zane felt it healthy to admit they loved the drama.
Mitch loved the dentist because the hygienist told him so much gossip about the office. It was a big dental operation with love triangles, trysts, and outrageous behavior like in a daytime soap opera.
To Mitch, the dentist visits were the perfect amount of connection for gossip. He went twice a year, vaguely knew all of the staff, but didn’t know any of them well enough to be affected by what he heard.
The gossip train unfortunately ground to a big halt when Mitch went in to see his hygienist, and instead, the dentist greeted him. The dentist was prominent in the stories. He seemed to be hiring hygienists he was dating or dating hygienists he was hiring.
The dentist sat Mitch down, leaned the chair back, pulled out a drill and said, “So I heard she told you everything.”
